Neat Thing: t-mobilepictures.com

I am a t-mobile subscriber so I will detail their picture-message album service, though I am pretty sure every provider offers this service.

t-mobilepictures.com is a free service to all t-mobile subscribers allowing you to send any picture message to the phone number 222, which will then be automatically uploaded to your account on t-mobilepictures.com.

It does take a one-time set up of just going to the website, putting in your phone number and t-mobile password. There, you now have a pictures account. Done. Now just send a photo to 222 and you’ll see it automatically appear on your account page.

There are privacy settings you can adjust to choose whether to have your pictures private, password protected, or public.

Also, there is a journal feature too. You can use this by sending a picture or text message to 2222 and then the message will be automatically uploaded to your journal (which can have separate privacy settings than the photos). I use this to remember notes, quotes or phone numbers if I am away from a computer.

I find the photo album and journal to be extremely useful. It’s nice to be able to have instant web access to things that are just on your phone. There are also many times I “clean up” my messages inbox while forgetting to lock or save a certain message. And quite often I want to show someone a picture that is stuck on my phone.

Thoughts: Opera 9.5 Alpha

I am currently using Opear 9.5 Alpha to write this. Within the past few weeks of using the test version of the latest Opera browser, I have certainly been pleased.

Article: Opera 9.5 Alpha Features

This cybernetnews article outlines a few key features of Opera 9.5 in their Alpha release. Of course, there have been numerous bug fixes as well.

The features listed in the article are:

  • Opening the page in a new browser through the context menu (without a hack!)
  • Restoring windows through the trashcan (instead of just tabs)
  • Syncronizing bookmarks through myopera (see ya later del.icio.us)
  • Full history search through the url!

All of which just add to the efficientness of the Opera web browser, along with a speed rendering increase which keeps Opera very very speedy!

Neat Thing: CleanCSS.com

This is not a validator, it simply cleans up your css code. For example, it suggests you use #000 instead of #000000. Most usability-ers will already know all of the shortcuts but ithis is still a great reference.

Useful Thing: Opera’s Block Content Feature

When it comes to blocking content there are two options: 1) import a list of sites and file names that will be blocked; or 2) manually block the site/file as it appears.

FireFox’s AdBlock extension uses the first method, while Opera implements the second.

The Block Content feature in Opera can be accessed by right-clicking in a blank area of any website. Right-click > Block Content. The page will then turn hazy and only the ads will be clickable. You can then left-click on an ad to make it disappear forever! Or shift-click if you want only that one image rather than ads with similar file names.

It is a bit tedious because you have to do this for every website. However, for the sites I go to the most, it is great to not have to see those ads because once I click the ads to disappear, I never have to do it for that site again!

Useful Thing: Amazon Lists

I have been using Amazon wishlists for quite a while. They were pretty well organized and easy to use. Unfortuantely, I started using my wish list as a “favorites” folder and basically just piled in items that I wanted to remember and set them all to low priority. However, since Amazon is brilliant, they have come up with a solution. Now you can create three separate types of lists, along with multiple wish lists. Of course, I do realize that Amazon has had these list options out for quite some time, but I still think that they are useful.

There is a gift list, to keep track of items I would like to buy for others. A wish list, same as the old except I can make multiple. For example, I can name one list “Birthday” and one “For School”. There is also a shopping list, which can be used similar to a “favorites”. Really it just helps save some space in your shopping cart. That, too, used to get over crowded.

With the plethora of vendors that sell through Amazon, the lists are great in being able to include items outside of the normal cd, book, electronics realm. All Amazon junkies should definitely take advantage of the list options, if for nothing else, to organize your wants and keep track of your browsed items better.

p.s. Here is my example of a simple birthday wishlist: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/3191NVMB8J3HM
